Obama to Link Aid for Colleges to Affordability – NYTimes.com
According to the article student loan debt now “out paces” credit card debt, and has been a major concern expressed by the Occupy Movement. The President presented a plan to keep tuition prices from spiraling upward by linking the availability of some types of student aid to the colleges ability to keep tuition low and to improve value to students. Critics claim this plan will lead to decreased quality of education, and that it will negatively affect public universities, which are subject to state level budget cuts and, they say, may not be able to avoid increases in tuition.
