January jobs report: Hiring ramps up, unemployment falls |CNN Money Feb. 3, 2012
Employers added 243,000 jobs in January, up from 203,000 in December. All gains were in the private sector as government employment is still falling. The unemployment rate fell to 8.3%, the lowest since February 2009. Expected performance in January was 130,000 additional jobs and an unemployment rate of 8.6%. Economists are excited by the news but caution that there is still a long way to go. The economy still needs to add 5.6 million jobs to return to 2008 levels.
